Programs & Credit Units

HomeA Introduction

RPUS seeks to advance the Gospel through the teaching and application of Reformed theology and traditions. The institution offers three academic degrees across two levels of study: one undergraduate degree and two graduate degrees. The undergraduate program is the Bachelor of Biblical Studies (BBS), which typically requires four years to complete and admission with a high school diploma or equivalent.

At the graduate level, RPUS offers the Master of Divinity (MDiv) and the Master of Theological Studies (MTS). The MDiv program generally requires three years of study, while the MTS program normally requires two years. Admission to these graduate programs requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, although rare exceptions may be granted in accordance with federal accreditation guidelines.

Credit Hours

Our credit hour definition conforms to accepted standards in higher education and satisfies the Federal definition, ensuring institutional establishment, equivalency, reasonable approximation, and a minimum amount of student work consistent with a Carnegie unit.

One semester credit hour generally corresponds to one hour of direct faculty instruction and at least two hours of out-of-class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks, or the equivalent amount of academic engagement in alternative formats such as online or intensive courses. Credit hours are assigned consistently across courses and programs and that they accurately reflect the expected learning outcomes, instructional time, and student workload.

An equivalent amount of work as required of this definition for other academic activities as established by the institution including laboratory work, practica, studio work, and other academic work leading to the award of credit hours.

At RPUS, the following applies

  • One credit hour represents 50 minutes of lecture or equivalent programming combined with the general expectation of two hours of preparation per week throughout one semester of 16 weeks.
  • All courses are three credits unless otherwise indicated.
  • Internships do not have credit.
